Lautoka FC is set to make a significant move in the mid-season transfer window by signing three international players from Vanuatu. This decision comes in response to the recent standing down of striker Saula Waqa, who tested positive for drugs, leaving a gap that the club aims to fill swiftly.
Shalendra Prasad, the president of Lautoka FA, indicated that the paperwork for these signings is nearing completion, although it remains unclear if the new players will be eligible to play in this weekend’s fixtures. The transfers were organized with the help of Abdul Shamim, director of Classic Printers, a former sponsor of Lautoka FC. During his recent visit to Fiji, Shamim played an instrumental role in selecting the players to enhance Lautoka’s squad strength.
This move aligns with recent changes in Fijian football regulations that allow district teams to sign a maximum of three international players each season. These new regulations, announced by Mohammed Yusuf of the Fiji Football Association, are intended to maintain competitiveness and promote local talent development within the league.
Lautoka will play against Nasinu at 1pm, followed by Nadi versus Tavua at 3pm at Prince Charles Park in Nadi this Sunday. Fans are hopeful that these new signings will bolster Lautoka’s performance and make this weekend’s matches more exciting.
