Lautoka FC president Shalendra Prasad has responded firmly to the criticism directed at his team following their significant 6-0 defeat to Rewa in the semi-finals of the Extra Battle of the Giants. Prasad expressed disappointment over the loss but emphasized that the players had put forth their best effort in facing a stronger opponent.
He disclosed that the club’s management prioritized the team’s welfare during their challenging trip to Labasa. To inspire the players further, their main sponsor, Paradise Seafood Supplies, along with other sponsors, pledged a $500 bonus for each of the 20 players contingent on a victory—a total incentive of $10,000.
Prasad raised concerns about the adverse impact of negative comments on team morale, particularly among younger players. He called on fans to shift their approach, urging them to offer support rather than shame the team in light of their defeat.
As the competition continues, Rewa will face Labasa in the final scheduled to begin today at 3 PM at Subrail Park, which will be available for live commentary on Radio Fiji Two.
This situation provides an opportunity for both Lautoka and their fans to rally together, supporting the players as they work through the challenges and focus on resilience. The shift towards building morale and maintaining a positive outlook is crucial, especially in the world of competitive sports where community support can significantly uplift a team’s spirit.
