The Lautoka City Council has successfully identified the truck driver responsible for the illegal dumping of rubbish near the Waiyavi Waterfall, thanks to the diligent efforts of its Litter Prevention Officers. Following a comprehensive investigation, it was confirmed that the truck owner has taken full responsibility for the incident and has agreed to clean up the affected area.

The offending party has been penalized with a spot fine under the Litter Promulgation Act 2010, which has already been settled. Salend Singh, the Head of Service, emphasized the council’s commitment to environmental preservation, expressing their dedication to maintaining natural attractions like Waiyavi Waterfall clean for the community’s enjoyment.

Singh stated, “Lautoka City Council is committed to protecting our environment and ensuring that natural attractions such as Waiyavi Waterfall are kept clean and preserved for the community.” The Council officials also pledged to continue their enforcement efforts to discourage illegal dumping and irresponsible waste disposal practices.

In light of this incident, the Council issued a firm reminder to both the public and commercial operators about the importance of responsible waste disposal and adherence to Council regulations. This initiative not only aims to deter future offences but also fosters a culture of environmental responsibility within the community, ensuring that the natural beauty of the region is preserved for future generations.
