The Lautoka City Council has firmly rejected recent social media claims alleging that the concrete at the new Lautoka Bus Stand has been damaged. Special Administrator Manasa Draki affirmed that these allegations are unfounded and emphasized that the structural integrity of the bus stand remains secure.

Draki acknowledged that while issues such as oil stains and acts of vandalism have been observed, the concrete and pavement are not compromised. He pointed out that the only reported damage was to a bus stopper, which the contractor has agreed to repair according to the terms of their contract.

Expressing disappointment in the social media narrative that has shifted blame onto the Council, Draki stated that the oil spills, vandalism, and littering are due to the irresponsible actions of the public. He reiterated the Council’s commitment to taking strict action against individuals who damage public property.

In an effort to safeguard the bus stand, Draki revealed that the Council is collaborating with local police and security personnel, who have been deployed from evening until morning to monitor the area. The Council is also urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation online and to contribute positively to the upkeep of public infrastructure.

This proactive stance reflects the Council’s commitment to maintaining community services and ensuring a safe environment for all residents and visitors.
