Lautoka Football Club is preparing for the highly awaited FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), scheduled for October 15-20. Following a remarkable season in which they triumphed in both the Fiji FACT and Battle of the Giants tournaments, the team is determined to end the year on a successful note.
Club president Shalendra Prasad announced that the team is actively pursuing the return of former Lautoka goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara for the competition, although nothing has been finalized yet. “Beniamino is the only player we are trying to get because he is a former Lautoka player, but we can’t confirm anything,” Prasad stated.
This decision to bolster the squad reflects the club’s ambition as they gear up for fierce competition. When questioned about James Hoyt’s situation, Prasad simply replied, “Nothing on Hoyt.”
Attention is currently on optimizing the existing roster before any final decisions are made. Prasad indicated that the final 22-member squad will be announced on Monday. “We will wait for our final 22 squad to be released then I can make further comment,” he added.
As this year’s hosts of the IDC, Lautoka is under significant pressure from their fan base, who are eager to see if the team can sustain their formidable performance. With two major trophies already in their possession, the pressing question remains whether Lautoka can secure the treble by adding the IDC to their list of achievements.
Fans and supporters will be closely watching the Blues as they prepare for one of the most significant football events of the year.
