Lau Province has taken a firm stance against drug trafficking, declaring that individuals involved in such activities “have no place” in the region. Leaders of the province voiced strong support for law enforcement initiatives during a recent gathering in Suva, emphasizing the critical need to combat substance abuse to protect families and future generations.

Ratu Tevita Lutunauga Kapaiwai Uluilakeba Mara, the Tui Lau, underscored the province’s commitment to prioritize the well-being of its citizens. He advocated for a zero-tolerance approach towards drug suppliers and highlighted the importance of a united response against narcotics.

Ratu Tevita articulated that the battle against drugs encompasses more than enforcement; it is fundamentally about safeguarding families and ensuring the stability of their communities. He also urged individuals grappling with substance abuse to seek rehabilitation and redemption.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the drug crisis is intertwined with other social issues, particularly violence against women, warning that communities are paying a steep price for this crisis. Ratu Tevita called for collective action to foster a safer environment for children and future generations.

In addition, he encouraged other provinces to unite and take a stand, asserting that a collaborative effort is vital to counter the influence of drugs and related crimes. Echoing this sentiment, Lau Provincial Council chairman Meli Saubulinayau emphasized the necessity for action, stating that mere words will not suffice to resolve the issue.

Saubulinayau rallied community members to engage in the fight against drugs, highlighting that unity and determination are essential to overcoming these challenges. He insisted that community cooperation, intelligence sharing, and awareness are crucial tools in supporting police operations and in steering young people away from the dangers of substance abuse.

This collaborative approach embodies a hopeful vision for Lau Province, as leaders and community members alike rally together to combat the pervasive threat of drugs and build a brighter future for all.
