The Lau Provincial Council has reiterated its commitment to supporting the Turaga na Tui Lau in addressing the critical issues of drug use and trafficking within the province. Chairman Meli Saubulinayau emphasized the council’s collaborative efforts with the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces to tackle the escalating drug problem.
Saubulinayau expressed that the expulsion of individuals involved in drugs from Lau is not a viable solution. He asserted that all cases will be managed through appropriate legal procedures and referred to the courts for justice. This approach underscores a focus on rehabilitation and legal accountability rather than punitive measures.
Additionally, Saubulinayau has extended a call to other provinces, urging them to unite in the collective fight against drug-related issues. He highlighted that combating drug use and trafficking is a shared responsibility that requires a national effort, reinforcing the idea that teamwork is necessary for success in this battle.
This proactive stance from the Lau Provincial Council reflects a hopeful commitment to not only address the challenges posed by drugs but also to engage communities in creating a safer environment for future generations. Through collaboration and legal frameworks, there is potential for meaningful progress in reducing drug-related issues across the nation.
