Late Equalizer Secures Tailevu Naitasiri’s Fate

A second-half goal by 22-year-old Rohan Lal saved Tailevu Naitasiri from the jaws of defeat in the second round of the Digicel Fiji Premier League yesterday. Lal’s goal ensured Tailevu Naitasiri held Ba to a 1-all draw at the Fiji Football Academy ground in Vatuwaqa, Suva.

Both teams walk away with a point each. The Men in Black had taken an early lead with Peceli Sukabula hitting the mark just 15 minutes into the match.

“It was a slow start again for us, conceding the first goal from a direct corner kick but the boys picked up after that goal. We had our chances but finishing again let us down in the second half we picked up the pace, made changes, and had open chances to score but that’s football if you don’t take your chances, you won’t win and we are glad about a point,” Tailevu Naitasiri head coach Priyant Manu stated.

Capitalising on opportunities will be a must next weekend as the Sky Blues brace for rivals Rewa. “We have to work on our fitness and next week we are playing Rewa. The chances we missed today, next week we should not miss it because Rewa is a champion side,” Manu said.

Looking at other results, Navua thumped Lautoka 6-2, Nadi came from behind to beat Nasinu 4-1, Suva and Rewa settled for a 1-all draw while Labasa defeated Nadroga 2-1.
