Manchester City secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Tuesday, thanks to a last-minute goal from Matheus Nunes. This win is vital for City’s pursuit of a Champions League spot for next season.

The match looked destined for a draw after Villa’s Marcus Rashford converted a penalty, equalizing Bernardo Silva’s opening goal in the first half. However, Nunes found the back of the net with a superb finish from a Jeremy Doku cross in the 94th minute, propelling City to third in the table with 61 points.

City had a promising start, with Silva scoring in the seventh minute after a well-placed cutback from Omar Marmoush. Villa levelled the score when Rashford, who had narrowly missed a goal earlier by hitting the post, converted a penalty awarded after VAR determined Ruben Dias had fouled Jacob Ramsey.

Despite Villa’s strong showing, with 15 consecutive losses at the Etihad Stadium, City showcased their dominance through possession (61.6%) and shot attempts, outpacing Villa in both respects. City skipper Kevin De Bruyne created two excellent chances in the second half, but James McAtee missed the opportunities to extend the lead before Nunes’ late winner brought joy to the home crowd and despair to Villa’s manager Unai Emery.

This victory is a pivotal moment as City navigates the tight race for Champions League qualification, a situation reminiscent of previous seasons where the team’s resilience shone through. The strategic performances and recent contributions from key players like Doku and Nunes provide a hopeful outlook for Manchester City’s ambitions in what remains of the season, encouraging fans to believe in their potential to achieve further success.
