The upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament, taking place from January 16 to 18, 2025, at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, is poised to be a historic event. It could potentially be the last time fans witness the iconic duo of Jerry Tuwai and Rosko Specman on the sevens rugby field, as both legends will represent the Mike Friday Select 7s team.

Tuwai, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and former World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year, has notably secured a silver medal at the Paris Summer Olympics in 2024. He embodies the spirit of Fiji rugby with his extraordinary skills, humility, and leadership. On the other hand, Specman, renowned for his speed and agility, played a pivotal role in South Africa’s 2017/2018 World Series victory and has successfully transitioned to 15s rugby, playing for the Cheetahs in the Pro 14 competition.

This tournament marks a special occasion as it is the first time Tuwai and Specman will play together as teammates, after many clashes in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. They will be joined by a stellar squad that includes former Irish 7s captain Harry McNulty, American sevens player Matai Leuta, and eight talented Fijian players: Lasaro Bogisa, Jope Tikoilepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Iowane Teba, Rauto Vakadranu, Ilikimi Torosi, Manueli Maisamoa, and Pilipo Bukayaro.

With a total of 44 teams participating—including 16 men’s teams, 16 youth teams, and 12 women’s teams—the Coral Coast 7s promises to deliver an exciting showcase of talent, thrilling matches, and a vibrant atmosphere, blending established players with emerging local stars. The involvement of such renowned athletes is expected to inspire young rugby talents and reinforce the significance of rugby in Fijian culture.

Fans can look forward to a memorable event celebrating not just high-level competition but also the rich heritage and community spirit of rugby in Fiji. The Coral Coast 7s stands out as a beacon of hope and unity, promising to invigorate the passion for rugby among enthusiasts and aspiring athletes alike.
