The director of the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament, Solo Finau, announced that there are still openings for teams to register for the upcoming event. With the registration deadline approaching tomorrow, he confirmed that 12 teams have already paid their fees to be part of the Tier One category, but the goal is to reach 16 teams. Should registration close at 12, Finau indicated that they would proceed under that number, although they hope to attract more participants.
In addition, Finau noted that 16 teams have already signed up for Tier Two, which consists of regular sevens teams, and they will finalize this category once the remaining teams confirm their paid fees of $300. The women’s category (Tier Three) has six teams confirmed, with an aim to reach eight, while eight teams are set for the Under-19 category (Tier Four). Participants will need to provide Voter Registration ID cards to validate their age group for this category.
The tournament aims to raise $30,000, which will contribute to the construction of the Nataleira Methodist Church, which was severely damaged during Cyclone Winston and subsequently destroyed in Cyclone Harold.
Ticket prices for the event are modest, priced at $2 for children under 12 and $5 for adults on Thursday and Friday, increasing slightly to $7 for adults on Saturday, with children’s tickets remaining at $2.
Overall, this tournament not only provides an opportunity for teams to compete but also for the community to come together and support a worthy cause—rebuilding a place of worship that has faced significant challenges. Encouraging participation and support can create a positive impact, showcasing resilience within the community.
