The director of the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament, Solo Finau, announced that there are still openings for teams interested in participating in the event. As the deadline for registration approaches, Finau confirmed that teams have until tomorrow to submit their entries.
Currently, 12 teams have registered for the Tier One category, but the goal is to have 16. If the numbers do not increase by the end of the week, the director mentioned that they will proceed with the 12 teams already confirmed. In Tier Two, which consists of regular sevens teams, 16 teams have signed up, and the registration will be finalized once all have confirmed their payment of $300.
For Tier Three, which is designated for women’s teams, six teams are confirmed as of now, with hopes to reach a total of 16. Finally, in Tier Four, concerning the Under-19 category, eight teams have paid their $100 fees, but there is still a need for an additional eight.
Finau stressed the importance of adhering to the registration deadline, emphasizing that it operates on a first-come, first-served basis across all categories. The tournament aims to raise $30,000, funds that are crucial for the completion of the Nataleira Methodist Church building, which suffered significant damage during Cyclone Winston and further destruction from Cyclone Harold.
Ticket prices for the event are set, with discounted rates for children and adults over different days.
This initiative not only advances community sports but also fosters recovery and rebuilding efforts in the wake of past natural disasters. The hope is that more teams will register, enhancing the competitiveness of the tournament and strengthening local community ties.
The upcoming tournament promises to be an exciting celebration of athletics while contributing substantially to a vital community project.
