The director of the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament, Solo Finau, has announced that there are still opportunities for teams to register, with the deadline approaching tomorrow. Currently, 12 teams have signed up for the Tier One category, but Finau aims to increase this number to 16. If the registration doesn’t reach the target by the end of the week, the tournament will proceed with the available teams.
For the second tier, there are 16 teams ready to compete, pending confirmation of their registration fees of $300. In the women’s category (Tier Three), six teams have confirmed their participation, with expectations to reach a total of eight. Similarly, the Under-19 category (Tier Four) has eight teams confirmed, but organizers are also hoping to attract more teams to meet the desired goal of 16.
Finau emphasized that registration is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis and that voter registration ID cards will be required to verify participants’ ages.
The tournament has a fundraising target of $30,000, which will aid in the construction of the Nataleira Methodist Church, partially destroyed by Cyclone Winston and completely ruined by Cyclone Harold. Ticket prices for the event have been set at affordable rates to encourage attendance, with discounts for children under 12.
This tournament not only brings together sports teams but also plays a crucial role in community rebuilding efforts, showcasing resilience in the face of adversity and the spirit of unity. Support for the tournament can contribute positively to the local community while enjoying exciting rugby action.
In summary, the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament is poised to foster competition and community spirit while raising funds for significant rebuilding efforts.
