The director of the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament, Solo Finau, announced that there are still openings for teams to register. With only a week remaining until the registration deadline, Finau aims for a total of 16 teams in Tier One, though only 12 teams have currently completed their registration. If they reach only 12 by the end of the week, that number will become final.
He noted that 16 teams have already signed up for Tier Two, which is for regular sevens teams, and the same final confirmation will apply once the remaining teams finalize their fees of $300. For Tier Three, which focuses on women’s teams, six have been confirmed, with hopes of reaching eight, while in Tier Four (the Under-19 category), eight teams are already confirmed but the target remains at 16.
To verify participants’ ages, voter registration ID cards will be utilized. The registration deadline is set for tomorrow, and it operates on a first-come, first-served basis across all categories.
Finau outlined their fundraising goal of raising $30,000 through the tournament, which will contribute to the rebuild of the Nataleira Methodist Church, previously damaged by Cyclone Winston and then fully destroyed by Cyclone Harold.
Ticket prices are also announced, with a slight increase for adults on Saturday as compared to Thursday and Friday.
This tournament not only promotes sportsmanship among the youth but also aims to support community rebuilding efforts, showing that sporting events can serve a greater purpose. Educating participants about the importance of prompt registration and fundraising can foster a spirit of unity within the community.
In summary, the upcoming R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament is shaping up to support both local athleticism and a significant community rebuilding project, reminding everyone of the resilience and collaborative spirit in the face of challenges.
