Residents of Nakabuta remain uncertain about the impact of ongoing landslides that have been troubling the community since last year. The persistent erosion has adversely affected their primary source of livelihood — the sea. Community members report that sediments have accumulated around the foundations of their local church and community hall.

Tomasi Tunabuna, the Assistant Minister for Waterways, stated that he would hold off on making any official comments as teams are still in the process of collecting data. He emphasized that the information collected will provide a clearer understanding of the situation. Mr. Tunabuna also mentioned that the ministry plans to engage in further discussions with relevant stakeholders once more information is available.
