Landowners Urged to Seize Economic Opportunities in Fiji’s Tourism Transformation

Landowners must actively participate in the use of their land, according to Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Minister for Public Works, Meteorology and Transport. During a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing event involving the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Nakovacake Development Trust, he emphasized the government’s goal of ensuring landowners take on a more engaged role in economic activities related to their land.

“This is a significant day for our community,” Ro Filipe stated, reinforcing the government’s commitment to support landowners in their economic endeavors. He also highlighted the importance of good governance and transparency in these developments.

Commander-Joint Task Force Brigadier-General Manoa Gadai, chair of the Nakovacake Development Trust, described this MOU as a remarkable milestone not only for local communities but also for Fiji and the wider region. He noted that this partnership between FNPF and ADB is unprecedented in scale and commitments.

“This venture will bring meaningful development and new opportunities to our nation,” Brig-Gen Gadai remarked. He emphasized that the agreement represents the start of a transformative journey for the people of Nakovacake.

The planned development at Nasaulevu, situated directly across from the Port Denarau Marina, is expected to enhance the tourism sector and provide benefits to the surrounding communities. Brig-Gen Gadai reflected on the significance of returning to Nasaulevu, a site steeped in ancestral heritage and vital to the community’s identity.
