Landowners Set to Transform Fiji’s Economic Landscape

Landowners must take an active role in utilizing their land, according to Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Minister for Public Works, Meteorology and Transport. During an MOU signing event involving the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), the Asian Development Bank, and the Nakovacake Development Trust for a significant tourism project in Nasaulevu, Nadi, Tuisawau emphasized the government’s goal of ensuring landowners act as active economic participants rather than remaining passive.

“This day is important for us all, particularly in terms of community involvement,” Tuisawau stated, adding that the government is prepared to support landowners in their economic engagements.

The chairman of the Nakovacake Development Trust, Commander-Joint Task Force Brigadier-General Manoa Gadai, described the signing as a critical milestone for local communities and Fiji as a whole. He noted that this collaboration marks the first time FNPF and ADB have partnered on such a large-scale initiative.

“This partnership is set to deliver significant development and opportunities to our nation,” Gadai remarked. He further stated that the MOU signifies the beginning of a transformative journey for the people of Nakovacake.

Gadai pointed out that the Nasaulevu development, located directly across from Port Denarau Marina, will not only boost the tourism industry but also benefit the local communities. He added that this development signifies a return to the land of their ancestors, a place deeply rooted in their identity.
