The FMF Lami 1 football team, known as the Seals, enjoyed a strong start to the Fiji Gujarati Sports Association Inter-District Championship (IDC), securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Rewa at the HFC Bank Stadium. Coach Sajeel Patel praised his young squad, whose average age is about 22, highlighting their preparation and unity as key factors in their solid performance.

The team dominated the match from the start, utilizing effective attacking strategies and maintaining a disciplined defense against a struggling Rewa side. Patel acknowledged that despite facing challenges in their previous tournament, where they reached the final of the New Zealand Gujarati tournament but lost on penalties, the experience gained was invaluable. “What matters is we learned from that experience,” he stated.

Lami Seals also made a significant impression in this tournament by fielding three teams, with Lami Arrow being the defending champions. Patel, whose family has a deep-rooted connection to the team, emphasized the need for continuous hard work as they progress in the competition. He also expressed gratitude to their enthusiastic supporters, stating that their energy would be crucial as the tournament unfolds.

In other tournament results, FMF Lami 3 (Arrows) achieved an impressive 7-0 win over FMF Lami 2, while FMF Suva and Navua’s match ended in a goalless draw. The excitement continues as the tournament progresses.

This encouraging performance from Lami Seals exemplifies their potential and commitment to success, setting a promising tone for the future of the team and the tournament ahead.
