LAMI High School is celebrating its remarkable progress to the final of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans competition, attributing their success to divine support. The team achieved a narrow 13-10 victory over Ratu Navula College in a challenging under-19 semi-final, securing their spot in the final this weekend.
This victory followed a tumultuous week for Lami, as four of its players faced scrutiny over allegations regarding their age and enrollment at the school. Despite these challenges, assistant coach Nemani Savomiramira expressed gratitude, stating, “We can only give the glory and honor back to God for giving us the strength to fulfill our goals and for the level that we have reached.” He recalled a tense moment in the match when Ratu Navula led 10-6 with just four minutes left, urging his players to keep believing in their potential to win.
While the ongoing allegations may have affected their public image, the team and coaching staff remain steadfast in their commitment to provide opportunities for their players through rugby. “We really take pride in God who has been the main pillar of our team,” added Savomiramira.
In the final, Lami faces a formidable opponent in Queen Victoria School, which recently emerged victorious in a tough semi-final against Naitasiri Secondary School. The match ended in a 24-24 draw, but Queen Victoria Advanced due to scoring more tries, with four compared to Naitasiri’s three.
