LAMI High School is celebrating a remarkable achievement as it advances to the finals of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans competition. The team secured their spot by narrowly defeating Ratu Navula College 13-10 in a fiercely contested under-19 semi-final match.
This victory comes after a challenging week for Lami, as four of its players faced scrutiny regarding allegations about their age and enrollment status. Assistant coach Nemani Savomiramira expressed gratitude for their success, saying, “We can only give the glory and honour back to God for giving us the strength to fulfil our goals and for the level that we have reached.”
With only four minutes remaining in the match and Ratu Navula ahead 10-6, Savomiramira urged his players to stay focused and remember their purpose, reinforcing their belief in their capacity to win. Despite the controversies surrounding the team, both the players and management remain committed to providing opportunities for the youth to improve their lives through rugby.
Savomiramira emphasized the significance of faith in their journey, stating, “We really take pride in God who has been the main pillar of our team.” Lami is set to face a formidable opponent in Queen Victoria School in the final on Saturday.
Queen Victoria School reached the final after a tough semi-final against Naitasiri Secondary School, which ended in a 24-all draw. QVS was awarded the win on the basis of scoring four tries compared to Naitasiri’s three.
