LAMI High School is celebrating a significant achievement as they advance to the final of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans competition. The team secured their spot by narrowly defeating Ratu Navula College with a score of 13-10 in a challenging under-19 semi-final.
This victory follows a difficult week for Lami, marked by scrutiny regarding the age and enrollment status of four of their players. Assistant coach Nemani Savomiramira expressed gratitude, saying, “We can only give the glory and honour back to God for giving us the strength to fulfill our goals and for the level that we have reached.” He recounted a crucial moment in the match when Ratu Navula was leading 10-6, urging his players to maintain their confidence and remember their purpose.
Despite the ongoing allegations, the team and management remain focused on providing opportunities for their young players through rugby. “We really take pride in God who has been the main pillar of our team,” Savomiramira added.
Lami will face their most formidable challenge yet against Queen Victoria School in the final on Saturday. Queen Victoria School had a tough encounter with Naitasiri Secondary School in the semis, which ended in a 24-all draw. They were awarded the win based on having scored more tries, four to Naitasiri’s three.
