LAMI High School is celebrating a significant achievement as they advance to the final of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans competition. The underdog team secured their spot in the final by narrowly defeating Ratu Navula College 13-10 in a challenging semi-final match.
This victory comes after a turbulent week for Lami, as four players faced scrutiny over allegations related to their age and enrollment at the school. Assistant coach Nemani Savomiramira expressed gratitude, stating, “We can only give the glory and honour back to God for giving us the strength to fulfil our goals and for the level that we have reached.” He added that when Ratu Navula was ahead 10-6 with just four minutes left, he urged the team to hold on to their belief in victory.
Despite the controversies, the team and its management remain focused on their mission to provide opportunities for their young players through rugby. “We really take pride in God who has been the main pillar of our team,” Savomiramira said.
Lami’s next challenge will be against Queen Victoria School in the final on Saturday. QVS also faced a tough match in the semi-finals, drawing 24-all with Naitasiri Secondary School, but they progressed due to scoring more tries—four compared to Naitasiri’s three.
