Lami High School Triumphs Amid Controversy in thrilling Dean Trophy Final

The Lami High School Under-19 rugby team remained unfazed by the numerous criticisms and allegations they faced ahead of the Vodafone Deans Trophy finals. This assertion was made by LHS head coach Beniamino Kakaivalu after the team secured a thrilling 20-19 victory over Queen Victoria School at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Kakaivalu noted that the players abstained from social media during this period, which helped them concentrate on their game and avoid negative distractions. He emphasized that this win is just the beginning of a larger ambition, as the team is planning to field an Under-18 side next year to compete for more titles.

Reflecting on the team’s journey, Kakaivalu mentioned the tough competition faced during the national qualifiers in Vanua Levu. They triumphed over Dreketi Central College with a score of 24-21, advancing to the national quarterfinals where they defeated Ratu Kadavulevu School 11-5 and Ratu Navula College 13-10 in the semi-final. Kakaivalu encouraged his players by reminding them that the reputation of their opponents should not intimidate them, stating that their determination was evident throughout the championship.
