LAMI High School is celebrating as it advances to the final of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans competition following a 13-10 victory over Ratu Navula College in a closely contested under-19 semi-final.
This achievement comes amidst scrutiny over age and enrollment allegations involving four players from Lami. Despite the challenges, assistant coach Nemani Savomiramira emphasized their focus on faith and strength, saying, “We can only give the glory and honour back to God for giving us the strength to fulfil our goals and for the level that we have reached.”
He recounted a critical moment in the game when Ratu Navula was ahead 10-6 with just four minutes remaining, urging his team to maintain their belief in victory.
While the allegations have cast a shadow over the team’s reputation, both the players and management remain committed to their mission of providing a brighter future for their youth through rugby. Savomiramira noted, “We really take pride in God who has been the main pillar of our team.”
Lami is set to face Queen Victoria School in the final this Saturday. QVS secured their final spot after a challenging semi-final against Naitasiri Secondary School, which ended in a draw at 24 apiece. QVS was declared the winner based on having scored more tries, with four compared to Naitasiri’s three.
