Lami High School triumphed in the inaugural U19 Vodafone Super Deans Rugby Championship on Saturday by defeating the formidable Queen Victoria School 20-19 at the HFC Bank Stadium.
The match began with Lami securing an early penalty, establishing a 3-0 lead. Queen Victoria responded swiftly, with Rupeni Cabenapaipo scoring a try to briefly take the lead. Just before halftime, Tunoa Qerea of Lami crossed the line for a try, giving his team an 8-5 advantage.
In the second half, Isoa Laulaba furthered Lami’s lead with another try, although the conversion was unsuccessful. Queen Victoria fought back with tries from Lemeki Racava and Josaia Tuinabouwaqa, with one conversion made, which placed them ahead 19-13.
As the match neared its conclusion, Lami staged a dramatic comeback. Anare Vakasausau scored a pivotal try and successfully converted, clinching a thrilling 20-19 victory and earning Lami High School its first U19 title.
