Lami High School made history on Saturday by winning their first U19 Vodafone Super Deans title, narrowly defeating the formidable Queen Victoria School with a score of 20-19 at the HFC Bank Stadium.
The match began with Lami taking an early lead with a penalty, making it 3-0. In response, Queen Victoria School’s Rupeni Cabenapaipo scored a try, briefly putting them in the lead. However, Tunoa Qerea from Lami bounced back just before halftime, scoring a try that put his team ahead 8-5.
In the second half, Isoa Laulaba increased Lami’s lead with another try, although the conversion was missed. Queen Victoria School responded strongly, with tries from Lemeki Racava and Josaia Tuinabouwaqa, with one of those conversions successful, driving QVS ahead 19-13.
As the match approached its conclusion, Lami staged an impressive comeback. Anare Vakasausau scored a vital try and successfully converted, sealing a dramatic 20-19 victory and securing their historic U19 title.
