Lami High School Claims Historic U19 Rugby Title in Nail-Biter Finale

Lami High School made history on Saturday by winning their first U19 Vodafone Super Deans title in Secondary Schools Rugby, narrowly defeating the formidable Queen Victoria School with a score of 20-19 at the HFC Bank Stadium.

The match began with Lami taking an early lead through a penalty, which put them ahead 3-0. Queen Victoria School quickly responded with a try from Rupeni Cabenapaipo, gaining a temporary advantage.

Just before halftime, Lami’s Tunoa Qerea scored, allowing them to retake the lead at 8-5.

In the second half, Isoa Laulaba extended Lami’s advantage with another try, although the conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

However, QVS rallied back with tries from Lemeki Racava and Josaia Tuinabouwaqa, with one of those converted, pushing QVS into the lead at 19-13.

In a nail-biting finish, Lami executed a remarkable comeback in the final moments of the match when Anare Vakasausau scored a vital try and successfully converted it, sealing a dramatic 20-19 victory and securing their historic U19 championship.
