Labasa’s head coach, Ravneel Pratap, has stated that his team will enter the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup in Lautoka as the underdogs. Despite winning the Inter District Championship title recently, Pratap believes that the Babasiga Lions will be the least experienced team in Group B.
Pratap acknowledged the formidable nature of their competition, labeling it a “pool of death” filled with seasoned teams. He noted that the USA All Stars possess professional players while the Auckland All Stars are akin to a shadow national team, featuring several current and former national representatives. Additionally, Rewa, having clinched the National League title and participated in the OFC Champions League, brings significant experience to the field.
Despite these challenges, Pratap remains optimistic about his team’s performance. He emphasized that they will give their utmost effort and aims to progress within their tough group. He encouraged fans, particularly Labasa supporters in the Western Division, to turn out in large numbers to support the team.
Adding to the team’s depth, Solomon Islands national representatives Atkin Kaua and Carlos Liomasia will join Labasa as guest players. The tournament kicks off with Labasa facing the USA All Stars at 4:30 PM today.
This tournament presents Labasa with an opportunity to grow and develop as a team against strong opposition, which could bolster their experience and enhance their performance in future competitions. The presence of guest players may also add a new dynamic to their strategy, potentially leading to more exciting matches ahead.
