Top midfielder Ashnil Raju is set to rejoin Inter-District champions Labasa for the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup in Lautoka this week. Raju’s participation comes after he missed the IDC due to family commitments, and his return is expected to enhance the team’s midfield capabilities significantly.
Coach Ravneel Pratap expressed confidence, mentioning that all key players from their IDC-winning squad, including Solomon Islanders Tigi Molea and Junior Fordney, will be present for the tournament. However, he confirmed that Australia-based player Anish Khem will be absent due to work obligations.
Labasa faces a challenging path in Group B, competing against strong teams like the defending champions Auckland All Stars, Rewa, and the USA All Stars. The team will kick off their tournament against the Americans, with the match scheduled for 4:30 PM tomorrow.
This development not only boosts Labasa’s hopes in the tournament but also showcases the resilience and commitment of the team to overcome individual challenges and remain competitive on an international stage. The return of Raju could be a pivotal factor in their performance, providing both skill and experience as they attempt to claim victory in the prestigious tournament.
