The Vualiku Hotel is set to alleviate the accommodation shortage in Labasa, according to Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica. The need for more hotel rooms became particularly noticeable during the Fiji Day celebrations at Subrail Park, which resulted in some civil servants having to share accommodations.

Minister Kamikamica emphasized that this project marks a significant step toward establishing Labasa as a tourism, hospitality, and economic growth hub. The initiative is backed by a $10 million investment from Vcorp Limited, led by directors Vinesh and Rachel Dayal, in collaboration with the Matasawa tribe. Their development plans have received approval and are now underway.

The hotel will feature a two-story building comprising 40 rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and various recreational activities. Additionally, it will boast a 500 square-meter conference facility, aimed at attracting more national conferences to the northern region.

Kamikamica noted that the venture embodies iTaukei empowerment, aligning with the Dayals’ goals and supporting the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s development initiatives. He remarked that this project redefines partnerships between landowners and businesses, offering both direct and indirect benefits to the community.

Expected to be completed by the end of 2025, the Vualiku Hotel promises to bring substantial improvements to the local tourism infrastructure, bolstering economic growth and enhancing opportunities for the residents of Labasa.

This hotel project represents a hopeful development for the area, as it not only addresses the current accommodation shortages but also lays a foundation for future tourism growth, benefitting both the local economy and the community at large.
