Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has initiated an ambitious multi-million dollar tourism development project at Korovatu in Labasa, Fiji. Situated near the picturesque Korovatu picnic area with views of Mali Island and Malau, the project recently garnered attention from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica during his visit to the site.
The project leader, Ma Xianlin, a tourism developer from China, purchased the 151-acre land following his first visit to Fiji as a tourist in 2018, and he completed the acquisition in 2022. He expressed gratitude towards Investment Fiji for their guidance and support in commencing this venture.
Mr. Xianlin disclosed that the initial investment of about $5 million has already been allocated for site upgrades aimed at establishing a range of tourism amenities. Plans include the construction of a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, and mountain top steps, all designed to enhance creative and engaging activities for visitors.
The project is planned to unfold in stages over the next five years. Mr. Xianlin emphasized the significant work required to transform this area into a premier tourism attraction in Vanua Levu.
Deputy Prime Minister Kamikamica conveyed his admiration for the project’s initial progress and noted its strategic elevation, providing stunning views for both tourists and locals. He expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of the people in the North experiencing modern tourism activities akin to those found abroad. Furthermore, he encouraged Mr. Xianlin to reach out for any governmental assistance needed to facilitate the development.
This project poses a positive outlook for the region, promising to create jobs and boost local tourism, ultimately enhancing the economic landscape of Northern Fiji. As the development unfolds, it might not only attract international tourists but also foster a stronger community engagement through recreational activities and infrastructure improvements.
