Labasa’s coach, Ravneel Pratap, has emphasized the need for defensive improvement ahead of their crucial Group A match in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) against host team Lautoka.
Although Labasa secured a 3-1 victory against Suva in their opening game, Pratap noted that their defense faced significant challenges, with the opponents putting their compatibility and consistency to the test.
“Our goalkeeper and captain, Simione Tamanisau, had to step in frequently to support the defense, and this must change for our next match against another formidable opponent,” Pratap stated. He acknowledged Suva as a strong opponent and highlighted Lautoka’s status as home to some of the best attackers in the country, indicating that complacency cannot be afforded.
Pratap expressed satisfaction with their performance against Suva and the importance of the win in boosting team morale. He reflected on the need to learn from their previous tournament experiences, citing the recent BOG as a lesson that would serve as a stepping stone for improvement.
He also commented on the wet and slippery playing conditions but noted that all teams are contending with the same circumstances. Therefore, Labasa must strategize effectively and adapt quickly to ensure a successful performance.
Labasa is set to face Flick Hygiene Lautoka in the featured match on Day 2 at 8 PM.
