Labasa’s Defensive Challenge Ahead of Lautoka Clash

Labasa Coach Ravneel Pratap emphasized the need for defensive improvements ahead of their significant Group A match in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) against hosts Lautoka tonight.

Despite securing a 3-1 victory over Suva in their opening game yesterday, Pratap pointed out that their defense faced numerous challenges, raising concerns about their compatibility and consistency.

“Our goalkeeper and Captain Simione Tamanisau had to step in and support the defenders multiple times, and this needs to change as we face another tough opponent in Lautoka,” he said. “Suva proved to be a formidable and challenging opponent, and Lautoka boasts some of the best attackers in the country right now, so we cannot be complacent and must prevent any pressure on our defense.”

Pratap acknowledged that while the performance against Suva was commendable and provided a morale boost, the team couldn’t afford to overlook their defensive weaknesses as they prepare for Lautoka. He also mentioned that the wet and slippery conditions on the field posed challenges, but the team must adapt to the circumstances.

“We can’t complain too much since all teams are facing the same conditions. We just need to strategize and ensure we adjust quickly,” he added.

Extra Supermarket Labasa is set to face Flick Hygiene Lautoka in a key match on Day 2 at 8 PM.
