Labasa Coach Ravneel Pratap emphasized the need for defensive improvements ahead of their important Group A match against host Lautoka in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) tonight. Despite achieving a 3-1 victory over Suva in their first game yesterday, Pratap expressed concerns about the team’s defensive performance, noting that their defense faced numerous challenges.
“Our goalkeeper and Captain Simione Tamanisau had to step in to support the defenders repeatedly, and we must address this before facing another formidable opponent,” Pratap stated. He recognized Suva as a strong competitor and highlighted Lautoka’s strength, saying they possess some of the best attackers in the country.
Pratap noted that the victory over Suva was essential for morale, especially after a disappointing start in the recent Battle of the Giants (BOG) tournament, which offered valuable lessons for the team.
He also mentioned that the wet and slippery pitch conditions were a challenge, but acknowledged that all teams were facing the same situation. “We need to adapt our strategies and ensure we quickly find our footing.”
Extra Supermarket Labasa will take on Flick Hygiene Lautoka in the evening’s marquee match at 8 PM.
