Labasa Coach Ravneel Pratap emphasized the need for his team to strengthen their defense ahead of their crucial Group A match in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship against host Lautoka tonight.
Although Labasa secured a 3-1 victory over Suva in their opening game yesterday, Pratap noted that their defensive line was put to the test, with opponents frequently challenging their reliability and consistency.
“Our goalkeeper and Captain Simione Tamanisau had to step in and support the defenders multiple times, but this must change for the next match as we face another formidable opponent,” he stated.
Pratap acknowledged that Suva was a tough competitor and highlighted Lautoka’s reputation for having some of the country’s best attackers, making it imperative for Labasa to remain vigilant and avoid adding pressure on their defense.
Reflecting on the match against Suva, he mentioned, “Overall, we played well and needed that win to kick off our campaign positively. Winning is always uplifting. Our poor start in the BOG serves as a lesson and a stepping stone for improvement.”
He also indicated that the wet and slippery conditions had an impact on their performance but insisted that they must adapt and make necessary adjustments.
“We cannot complain much since all teams are facing the same conditions. It’s essential for us to strategize effectively and ensure we adjust quickly,” he added.
Labasa will face Flick Hygiene Lautoka in the main match of Day 2 at 8 PM.
