The business sector in Labasa has expressed strong support for the upcoming Battle of the Giants tournament, set to take place next year at Subrail Park, sanctioned by the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA). This confirmation comes from Fiji FA’s CEO, Mohammed Yusuf, who revealed that Labasa will host the tournament.

Paul Jaduram, president of the Macuata Tourism Association, praised the decision, emphasizing the economic benefits the tournament could bring to the town. He highlighted Labasa’s significant potential for sports tourism, contingent upon cooperation from the local business community. Jaduram noted that the town has sufficient hotel accommodations to welcome visitors from other regions, particularly Viti Levu.

Ravneel Pratap, the men’s football coach for Labasa, sees this event as a chance to reclaim the title they lost this year after winning the B.O.G title in 2023. He urged the council to enhance the playing field to ensure high-quality football during the tournament. Pratap recalled the successful turnout for the Digicel Fiji FACT tournament earlier this year, expressing confidence that the football community in the North would welcome this news enthusiastically. The coach acknowledged the pressures of playing at home but remains excited about the prospect of competing for victory.

In preparation for major events, the Labasa Town Council invested over $40,000 in new floodlights, enhancing the facilities for players and spectators alike.

This announcement not only highlights Labasa’s readiness to host significant sporting events but also showcases the town’s commitment to fostering sports tourism. Such initiatives are vital for local economies, and the community’s united effort presents an optimistic outlook for the future of sports in the region.

In summary, Labasa is gearing up for an exciting football tournament that promises not only to boost local businesses but also to create a vibrant atmosphere for sports enthusiasts and tourists alike.
