The acting chief executive of the Labasa Town Council, Mohammed Ali, has returned to his position following a temporary suspension related to allegations of financial misconduct. Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa held a meeting today with the Labasa Special Administrators to discuss the process surrounding Ali’s suspension, which was determined to have breached normal procedures.
Minister Nalumisa emphasized the need for transparency and good governance during this inquiry, stating, “The purpose of our meeting today is to establish what actually has happened and whether due process was followed.” Given the findings from the discussions, it was agreed to withdraw the suspension, allowing Ali the opportunity to respond to the claims against him.
To ensure accountability, an investigation team will be formed to look into the allegations. Minister Nalumisa remains committed to verifying the claims and ensuring Ali has adequate time to address the allegations.
In related developments, Nalumisa also inspected local projects such as the Savusavu market enhancement and is set to observe progress on the Nabouwalu terminal project tomorrow.
