The Ministry of Health has announced its commitment to enhancing the electrical systems in key hospitals to ensure the safe and efficient operation of newly installed medical equipment. This initiative comes in response to reports indicating that several health facilities are struggling with inadequate electrical capacity to support modern medical machinery.
One of the crucial aspects of this upgrade is the introduction of CT scan services at Labasa Divisional Hospital, which has faced challenges due to its inability to accommodate the electrical requirements of the equipment. Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, emphasized that Labasa Divisional Hospital is a busy healthcare facility. The Government has allocated funds for a comprehensive rewiring of the hospital, and in the meantime, the Ministry is making efforts to implement temporary solutions.
Dr. Lalabalavu stated, “A transformer has been sourced from EFL and is already on site. What’s left now is the power board through the Ministry of Infrastructure. Once everything aligns, then we can start using the CT scan.” This proactive approach reflects the government’s dedication to improving healthcare services.
In addition to the efforts at Labasa, similar electrical upgrades are being implemented in major hospitals across the Central Division. These enhancements are critical, as sensitive medical equipment can be prone to damage without the appropriate power support. Overall, these upgrades signify a positive step towards improving healthcare infrastructure, which will ultimately benefit patients and healthcare providers alike.
