The crushing season at the Labasa Sugar Mill officially concluded on Monday, marking the end of another productive year for the facility. However, unlike previous years, there was no organized event to commemorate the season’s closure or to disclose the total amount of cane processed.
A representative from the Fiji Sugar Corporation mentioned that details regarding the overall tonnage from all three mills will be communicated in a press release later this week. Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh highlighted that the Labasa mill outperformed its counterparts in the Western Division, exceeding the initial projection of 547,000 tonnes of cane processed. He noted that the labasa mill was able to crush more cane than in the previous year, indicating a positive trend in production.
The minister promised to provide the specific crushing data later this week, generating anticipation for the final figures.
This year’s achievements at the Labasa Sugar Mill offer a glimmer of hope for the local sugar industry, demonstrating resilience and potential for growth. As stakeholders eagerly await the official figures, there’s a sense of optimism that the sugar sector can continue to thrive moving forward.
