The Extra Supermarket Labasa football team returned to victory by defeating Nasinu 2-0 in their Digicel Fiji Premier League match at Subrail Park on Saturday. This win secured Labasa three points, allowing them to remain in second place on the league’s points table.
Labasa striker Tigi Molea opened the scoring during the first half with a powerful shot from within the 18-yard area, giving his team a 1-0 advantage. Young talent Jone Lalagavesi expanded the lead with a goal in the 80th minute.
Labasa coach Ravneel Pratap expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the significance of the win in maintaining their position on the table. “The players understood the importance of this game, especially since upcoming away matches will be challenging,” he stated.
Following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Nadi and Tailevu/Naitasiri in their previous two matches, Labasa is set to travel to Viti Levu for a clash against Ba in Round 17 of the league. Pratap noted an improvement in his players’ decision-making during the match compared to earlier games, where they often made imprudent passes.
“We avoided risky passes at the back, and I’m pleased with the players’ judgment. It’s all about competing for the league title now, and we’ve let ourselves down in several past matches,” he remarked. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a buffer against teams like Lautoka, who currently sit third in the standings and could potentially rise to second.
Pratap also congratulated Lalagavesi for scoring in his debut match for Labasa in the league, acknowledging the significance of the achievement for the young player. “Scoring a goal in your first home game and getting substantial playing time is a significant milestone for him,” he added.
Results from the league include Labasa 2-0 Nasinu, Tailevu/Naitasiri 1-2 Navua, Suva 4-0 Nadroga, Ba 1-0 Nadi, and Rewa 2-0 Lautoka.
