Labasa Secures Victory: A Step Closer to the Title Race!

The Extra Supermarket Labasa football team returned to form with a 2-0 victory over Nasinu during their Digicel Fiji Premier League match at Subrail Park on Saturday. This win helped Labasa secure the second position in the DFPL standings.

Labasa striker Tigi Molea opened the scoring in the first half with a powerful shot from inside the 18-yard box, giving his team a 1-0 advantage. Young player Jone Lalagavesi added a second goal in the 80th minute to solidify the victory.

Coach Ravneel Pratap expressed his satisfaction with the result, highlighting the importance of the win in maintaining their standing on the points table. “The players knew the significance of this match because our upcoming away games will be challenging,” he stated.

After a frustrating 1-1 draw against Nadi and Tailevu/Naitasiri in their previous two matches, Labasa is now set to face Ba in Round 17 of the DFPL on Viti Levu. Pratap noted that his players showed improved decision-making, avoiding unnecessary risky passes compared to earlier games.

“It’s crucial to maintain a gap from other teams like Lautoka,” Pratap explained, as Lautoka currently holds the third position and aims to climb to second place.

He also congratulated Lalagavesi on scoring in his debut match for the team. “It’s a significant achievement for the young player to score in his first home game while getting substantial playing time,” he remarked.

In other match results, Labasa triumphed 2-0 over Nasinu, Tailevu/Naitasiri lost 1-2 to Navua, Suva defeated Nadroga 4-0, Ba edged past Nadi with a 1-0 win, and Rewa had a 2-0 victory against Lautoka.
