Police in Labasa have made several arrests in connection with the possession of illegal drugs at the municipal market since the start of the year. Acting Divisional Police Commander North, Superintendent Eroni Soqosoqo, stated that these actions serve as a stern warning to those involved in drug trafficking.

Among the arrested individuals is a 35-year-old farmer from Kilikoso, who was found with nine sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Additionally, a 42-year-old unemployed man from Qelewaqa was taken into custody after being discovered with similar dried leaves at the Labasa Market Taxi Stand. Another apprehension involved a 40-year-old man from Qelewaqa, who was caught with eleven sachets of marijuana at the Labasa Bus Stand, while a chef from Valebasogo was also arrested for possessing four sachets of the substance.

In a separate operation in Tukavesi, Cakaudrove, police seized containers that held 334 green plants, also believed to be marijuana. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, mentioned that drug-related arrests occur frequently and expressed gratitude towards village leaders for their assistance in providing crucial information.

This proactive stance by law enforcement is commendable and highlights a community effort to combat drug-related issues. By cracking down on illegal activities, authorities are reinforcing a message that there is zero tolerance for drug misuse, enhancing the safety and well-being of the community. As the police continue these initiatives, it is hopeful that such actions will create a healthier environment and deter future illegal activities.
