Police in Labasa have taken significant action against drug-related activities at the municipal market with multiple arrests since the beginning of the year. Acting Divisional Police Commander North, Superintendent Eroni Soqosoqo, emphasized that these arrests serve as a stern warning to those involved in the drug trade.
Notable incidents include a 35-year-old farmer from Kilikoso, who was caught with nine sachets of suspected marijuana. Another individual, a 42-year-old unemployed man from Qelewaqa, was apprehended at the Labasa Market Taxi Stand with similar illegal items. Additionally, a 40-year-old man in Qelewaqa was arrested at the Labasa Bus Stand for possessing 11 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, while a chef from Valebasogo was detained after being found with four sachets.
In a related operation, police in Tukavesi, Cakaudrove, discovered 334 green plants suspected to be marijuana. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, noted that drug arrests are occurring daily and praised the community leaders for their foresight in reporting suspicious activities.
