Health professionals from Labasa Hospital, along with members from the Bua, Macuata, Savusavu, and Taveuni subdivisions, concluded a successful three-day training program focused on Disease Outbreak Response Teams (DORT) in Labasa this week.
This annual workshop provided medical staff with vital skills essential for effectively managing disease outbreaks. Training covered a range of topics, including disease surveillance, data collection and analysis, laboratory testing, clinical management, public health interventions, and strategies for outbreak control. Participants were also guided on how to create comprehensive Outbreak Response Action Plans, which will further bolster their readiness in facing potential health crises.
The training session received support from the World Health Organization and was facilitated by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in partnership with Fiji’s Environmental Health Unit. During the formal closure of the workshop, Acting Chief Health Inspector Luke Vonotabua highlighted the significance of enhancing Fiji’s capabilities in addressing health emergencies promptly and effectively.
This initiative represents a crucial step in strengthening the health infrastructure in Fiji, ensuring that medical personnel are prepared to respond to outbreaks, thereby safeguarding the health and well-being of the community.
