The business sector in Labasa has expressed its support for hosting the upcoming Rooster Chicken/Scoop Ice Cream Fiji Football Association’s (Fiji FA) sanctioned Battle of the Giants tournament at Subrail Park next year. This affirmation followed the announcement by Fiji FA Chief Executive Mohammed Yusuf, confirming Labasa as the tournament venue.

Paul Jaduram, President of the Macuata Tourism Association, praised Fiji FA for their confidence in the Labasa Town Council as the tournament organizer. He highlighted that hosting the tournament will spur economic growth in the area. Jaduram emphasized Labasa’s potential in sports tourism, underscoring that success will depend on collaborative efforts within the local business community.

With ample hotel accommodations available in Labasa, Jaduram assured they can effectively cater to visitors from Viti Levu. Labasa’s football men’s coach, Ravneel Pratap, views this tournament as an excellent opportunity for the team to reclaim the championship they lost this year, after winning the B.O.G title in 2023.

Pratap noted the importance of improving the playing ground to ensure high-quality matches. Earlier this year, Labasa successfully hosted the Digicel Fiji FACT tournament, which attracted significant spectator attendance. He acknowledged the excitement and pressure that come with competing at home, but remains optimistic about the team’s prospects.

In preparation for past tournaments, the Labasa Town Council invested over $40,000 in new floodlights, signaling their commitment to providing an enhanced experience for players and fans alike.

This positive development not only promises to deliver thrilling football action but also highlights the potential for Labasa to emerge as a vibrant hub for sports tourism in Fiji, stimulating both community spirit and local economic growth. The collaboration between the business community and the football association reflects a united effort to enhance the region’s sporting landscape.
