It’s confirmed that Subrail Park in Labasa will host this year’s Battle of the Giants (BOG) tournament for the first time in 23 years. The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) and the Labasa Town Council finalized the agreement yesterday, stirring excitement within the local community.

Fiji FA’s chief executive, Mohammed Yusuf, expressed enthusiasm about the event returning to Labasa, stating that it allows northern fans to experience top-level football locally. He highlighted the long-time reputation of Subrail Park as a passionate venue for football.

Paul Jaduram, the Special Administrator Chairman of the Labasa Town Council, reflected on the importance of the collaboration with Fiji FA. He assured that the Council is committed to all logistical needs and will enhance safety and facility preparations to ensure the tournament is a success. This includes substantial efforts towards improving facilities and managing accommodations for an expected influx of teams and supporters.

The first round of the BOG is scheduled from August 1st to 3rd. In past endeavors, Labasa has successfully hosted other significant tournaments, including the Digicel Fiji FACT earlier this year, which showcased the community’s enthusiasm for football and its ability to attract sizeable audiences.

This tournament presents not only an opportunity to elevate local sports tourism but also emphasizes the economic potential for Labasa. The community is coming together, fostering excitement and pride while positioning itself as a hub for major sporting events in Fiji. With active engagement from local businesses and authorities, Labasa is equipped to offer a remarkable experience for athletes and fans alike, creating a hopeful future for sports in the region.
