Alvin Chand has officially been named the head coach of Labasa Football, succeeding the successful Ravneel Pratap. Chand, who began his journey with the senior squad during January’s Champion vs Champion series preparations, has been a significant presence within Labasa football for nearly nine years, having dedicated seven of those years to coaching youth teams.

Expressing his gratitude to the club officials and the president for their faith in him, Chand stated, “It’s the dream of all the youth coaches in Fiji to one day lead the senior team. I hope this season is successful for our team and our fans.” He acknowledges the considerable achievements of his predecessor, Pratap, who won multiple tournaments, including the CVC, BOG, and IDC, leaving behind “big shoes to fill.”

Chand is determined to maintain the winning momentum established by Pratap and calls for the support of the fans as he embarks on this new chapter. “The pressure is always there,” he remarked, recognizing the challenges ahead as he prepares Labasa for their upcoming match against Lautoka this Sunday at 3 pm, which will be broadcast live on Radio Fiji Two.

Reflecting on previous experiences, Chand’s focus will also be on fortifying the team’s resilience and tactical strength as they navigate through what promises to be a demanding season. This appointment comes at a time when Labasa is acknowledging their goal of competitive excellence within Fiji’s football landscape, using their strong community support to encourage performances worthy of their history and aspirations.

In the broader context of Labasa Football’s future, the recent establishment of the Fiji FA Elite Academy—a venture aimed at nurturing young talent—provides both hope and a pathway for the development of future athletes in the region. With initiatives like this and the transition of experienced coaches into pivotal roles, the future of Fijian football appears bright, welcoming new tactics and fresh talent while continuing to build upon its proud legacy.

Overall, sports audiences can remain optimistic as the Labasa Football team looks to blend tradition with innovation under Chand’s guidance, aiming for exciting performances throughout the season.
