The Labasa Football Academy is expected to see a significant upgrade with a $2 million development slated for March, as announced by the chief executive of the Fiji Football Association, Mohammed Yusuf. This investment will include the construction of a high-performance training pitch, which is set to be officially inaugurated during the Battle of the Giants tournament in August.

In addition to this project, the Fiji Football Association has made noteworthy advancements in enhancing football facilities throughout the country. This includes the establishment of beach soccer and futsal courts at the Labasa and Ba academies, costing the association $500,000. Furthermore, three futsal courts have been re-established, reflecting the FIFA FA’s dedication to the growth of the sport in Fiji.

Yusuf expressed pride in the progress made this year, emphasizing that the introduction of new facilities and successful tournaments is crucial for inspiring future generations of players. He noted the ambitious goal set for 2025, highlighting the hope that these plans will come to fruition.

Additionally, the Fiji FA is preparing to kick off the Lomolomo Land Project, pending government approval for rezoning land to create a $1.5 million high-performance center. This venture aims to include two playing grounds, a stadium, and dedicated facilities for beach soccer and futsal.

Beyond infrastructural advancements, the Fiji FA has celebrated success with several major local tournaments in 2024. Notably, Lautoka defended its title at the Digicel Pacific Fiji FACT held in Labasa, and later secured victory at the Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants. Moreover, Labasa emerged victorious in the FMF Inter-District Championship and maintained their dominance in the Cecil’s National Club Championship, solidifying their status as a formidable force in Fijian football.

This positive trajectory in the development of football facilities and the success of local teams suggests a bright future for the sport in Fiji, with hopes that these initiatives will cultivate a new generation of talented players.

Summary: The Labasa Football Academy is set for a $2 million enhancement in March that will include a high-performance training pitch, with a broader initiative aimed at improving football facilities across Fiji. The Fiji Football Association has also seen success in local tournaments while planning future developments, promising a hopeful outlook for the sport’s growth in the region.
