Alvin Chand, the head coach of Extra Supermarket Labasa FC, expressed pride in his team’s remarkable journey as they claimed the 2025 BiC Fiji FACT title at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Labasa triumphed with a 4-2 victory over Ajay Trading Rewa FC in a tense penalty shootout after both teams ended regulation time at a 1-1 draw.

Chand highlighted how the rapid adjustments made within just a week, including strategic positional changes and intense training sessions, contributed to the squad’s impressive performance. “The boys showed impressive commitment, adapting to our game plan in a very short timeframe,” he stated. He praised the determination and dedication of the players, which, according to him, played a pivotal role in achieving this victory, especially after facing a challenging second half that included a red card to Taniela Waqa, leaving the team with ten players.

Celebrating their first Fiji FACT title in a decade, which was last won in 2015, the Babasiga Lions’ exuberance was palpable. Chand expressed his joy, stating, “We are relieved and excited after overcoming significant challenges during the final.” The team’s success serves not only as a milestone for Labasa but also as a source of inspiration for the future of Fijian football, emphasizing the values of teamwork and perseverance.

Labasa’s goalkeeper, Simione Tamanisau, played a crucial role in the match, demonstrating leadership and skill. His contributions were acknowledged when he received the prestigious Golden Glove award. Additionally, Rusiate Doidoi was honored with the Golden Ball for his exceptional performance throughout the tournament.

This championship victory marks a revitalization in Fijian football, showcasing the strong bond between the team and its community support, which has been vital during their challenges. The Babasiga Lions now look ahead with hope and ambition, ready to tackle future competitions with renewed vigor and determination.
