Labasa FC Aims for Redemption at Home in Upcoming Clash

EXTRA Supermarket Labasa FC is looking to regain their momentum in their upcoming match against Tailevu Naitasiri in round 14 of the Digicel Fiji Premier League. Following a disappointing 4-2 defeat to Lautoka in round 13, the team is determined to secure a victory, particularly on their home ground.

Head coach Ravneel Pratap expressed confidence in the squad’s preparations, despite acknowledging the dip in morale after the loss. “The team faced challenges playing in their hometown, but they are eager to bounce back and not disappoint their fans and supporters,” Pratap stated. He also pointed out that defensive issues were a significant concern they addressed during the week.

While three key players, Taniela Waqa, Christopher Wasasala, and Akeimi Ralulu, are sidelined due to injuries, the team remains hopeful, relying on the talents of their younger players to deliver a strong performance against their rivals. “We know Naitasiri will come prepared as they are trying to escape the relegation zone, while we are striving to move up the standings.”

Pratap emphasized the importance of their home advantage and urged Labasa fans to come out in large numbers for support. Labasa had been closing in on league leaders Rewa in the points table but fell behind after last week’s loss to Lautoka.

Tailevu Naitasiri will also be eager to collect points, having struggled at the bottom of the standings due to recent defeats. They are aware of the tough challenge that awaits them against Labasa but believe they have the capability to cause an upset, as demonstrated in previous matches this season.

In other matches in the Digicel Fiji Premier League today, Suva will face Nasinu at 3 PM at the Uprising Sports Complex in Pacific Harbour, while Nadi will host Lautoka at 7 PM at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Tomorrow, two games are scheduled: Rewa will compete against Flowserve Engineering & Pump Supplies Navua FC, and Rooster Chicken Ba FC will take on Nadroga.

As it stands after 13 rounds, Rewa leads the league with 30 points, followed closely by Labasa with 27 points. Lautoka is in third place with 22 points, and Nadi follows closely behind with 21 points.
